Of late, that has seemed so much ancient history. Going into this season, Boston hadn’t won a title in five years nor reached the championship round in four. Those nerdy black high-top sneakers that are a Celtics trademark seemed appropriate for a bunch of guys who, for the past two seasons, couldn’t get a date to the second round of the playoffs. With the same three aging stars who had anchored the club since 1980 - Larry Bird, 34, Kevin McHale, 33, and Robert Parish, at 37 the oldest player in the NBA - prospects appeared dismal....

Uli Hoeness, President of the European champions Bayern Munich, has been charged by prosecutors in Germany for tax evasion. The prosecutors though, have not given the details of the indictment, citing tax secrecy laws. The charge comes after the prosecutors conducted a lengthy inquiry. Hoeness has one month to respond to the charges before a Munich court. “We have filed the charges to the Munich state court. The defence now has one month to pronounce itself,” a spokesman for the Munich prosecutors said....

The former Manchester City man suffered the problem in the first half of Bayern’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday, forcing his withdrawal in the 34th minute. Boateng is reported to be facing between four and six weeks out as a result, with Germany’s first World Cup game taking place on June 17 against Mexico in Moscow. Prior to the company returning to the road in front of the WWE Universe, Bayley was injured in the ring at the WWE Performance Center. It was a heartbreaking injury for someone who helped carry the company on her back throughout the course of the pandemic when WWE had to perform in front of no fans. The injury is reported to be her ACL, and WWE has stated that she will miss nine months before being able to return to the ring, which would put her on track to hopefully return in time for next year’s WrestleMania....

The world’s wealthiest cricket board had added ₹4,017.11 crore as ‘income’, out of which they earned ₹2,597.19 crore from the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to the news agency, the 2018-19 balance sheet is still not in public domain, while the accounts of 2019-20 are still not ready. During financial year 2018-19, the BCCI earned ₹828 crore from media rights - their second-biggest source of income....

The investigation is led by Australian police with a Sydney Morning Herald report saying Victoria Police have documents naming Ravinder Dandiwal in a global tennis match-fixing and betting scam. Ravinder Dandiwal is also on the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti-corruption radar and the world body even said that majority of the 50 ongoing investigations are linked to suspects in India. Ravinder Dandiwal’s social media profile till Sunday (June 28) had listed him as general secretary of ‘Cricket Council of India’, chairman of the ‘Cricket Premier League’ and managing director of ‘Ultimate Sports Management’....

In its 10th status report to the Supreme Court, the COA explained why the two appointments need to be made before fresh elections are held. “The newly registered constitution of BCCI requires the appointment of an Ombudsman at the Annual General Meeting for the purpose of providing an independent dispute resolution mechanism…,” the COA report stated. The COA said the the Ombudsman must be a retired judge or chief justice of a High Court and must be given a one-year tenure, subject to a maximum of three terms....

(Eds: Updating with COA Chairman Vinod Rai’s statement) New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI) The BCCI is likely to challenge the Central Information Commission’s ruling that the cricket board be brought under the RTI act with a top official accusing the Committee of Administrators (COA) of “wilful negligence” in dealing with the matter. The CIC verdict would effectively mean that the BCCI become a National Sports Federation (NSF). The BCCI, which has resented coming under the Right to Information (RTI) act claiming to be an autonomous entity, feels the COA is to be blamed for the setback which hit the Board on Monday evening....

History of BCG Around the turn of the 20th century, researchers were working hard to develop a vaccine to prevent tuberculosis. Two researchers, Calmette and Guerin, began investigating the bacteria Mycobacterium bovis in their lab. This bacteria is closely related to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis infection. Eventually, Calmette and Guerin developed a weakened strain of Mycobacterium bovis which they used to develop a successful vaccine against tuberculosis. This became known as the BCG vaccine, for “Bacillus Galmette-Guerin,” the strain of bacteria the pair had produced....
